This means that 50 employees steal 20 minutes of time (or 1/3 of an hour) each day. If the average hourly pay rate is $12/hour, the formula to determine the daily loss is as follows:

No. of Late Employees x (Hours x Pay Rate) = Daily Cost In this example: 50 employees x (1/3hr x $12) = $200 per day 250 Work Days per Year = $50,000 per year

This calculation excludes Soft Costs such as the lower morale (and resulting lower productivity) that punctual employees feel when they come to work on time and their fellow employee strolls in 10 minutes later.
